Medicare Advantage Plans for Rhode Island and Massachusetts Residents

How We Help You Compare Plans Across Rhode Island and Massachusetts

We don't hand you a brochure and wish you luck. When you work with PG Financial Group, we sit down with you — in person, by phone, or virtually — and walk through every plan available in your zip code. That includes plans from carriers like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and others in our network.

Here's what that process looks like:

Step 1: Review Your Current Coverage and Priorities

We start by understanding what matters most to you — your doctors, your prescriptions, your budget, and any specialists you rely on. No two people need the same plan.

Step 2: Compare Every Available Plan in Your Area

We pull every Medicare Advantage plan available in your county and compare them side by side — premiums, deductibles, copays, networks, drug formularies, and extra benefits.

Step 3: Walk You Through the Numbers in Plain Language

We explain what you'd actually pay in different scenarios — routine visits, specialist care, hospitalizations — so you understand your real exposure before you commit.

Step 4: Handle Enrollment From Start to Finish

Once you've chosen a plan, we manage the paperwork and enrollment process. And we stay available after enrollment — not just during open enrollment season.

Independent guidance through every Medicare Advantage option available in your area — so you choose the plan that fits your life, not just your budget.

With so many Medicare Advantage plans competing for your attention every fall, it can feel impossible to know which one actually works for you. PG Financial Group has spent 25+ years helping Rhode Island and Massachusetts residents cut through the noise — comparing benefits, networks, costs, and coverage side by side, with no pressure and no agenda. As an independent agency contracted with 15+ A-rated carriers, we work for you, not for any single insurance company.

We serve clients across Lincoln, Providence, Pawtucket, Cranston, Warwick, Cumberland, Central Falls, and throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. If you're turning 65, losing employer coverage, or simply wondering whether your current plan still makes sense, we're here to help you figure it out.

Medicare Advantage (also called Medicare Part C) is an all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare, offered by private insurers approved by the federal government. These plans must cover everything Original Medicare covers, and most include additional benefits that Original Medicare doesn't offer.

What most Medicare Advantage plans include:

  • Hospital coverage (Part A) and medical coverage (Part B) bundled in one plan
  • Prescription drug coverage (Part D) in most plans
  • Dental, vision, and hearing benefits not available through Original Medicare
  • Fitness program memberships and wellness perks
  • Out-of-pocket maximums that cap your annual exposure — something Original Medicare lacks

The tradeoff worth understanding: Medicare Advantage plans typically use provider networks. Staying in-network keeps your costs predictable. Going out of network — or needing care while traveling — can change what you pay. That's one of the reasons having an independent advisor review your plan options matters before you enroll.

What Medicare Advantage Actually Covers — and What to Watch For

When You Can Enroll in Medicare Advantage

Enrollment windows matter. Choosing the wrong time to make a change can mean waiting months for coverage to take effect — or missing an opportunity to switch to a better plan.

The key enrollment periods to know:

  • Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): A 7-month window surrounding your 65th birthday when you first become eligible for Medicare.
  • Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15 through December 7 each year. This is when most people compare and switch plans, with coverage beginning January 1.
  • Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period: January 1 through March 31. If you're already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can switch to a different one or return to Original Medicare during this window.
  • Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs): Triggered by qualifying life events — moving, losing employer coverage, changes in Medicaid eligibility, and others.

If you're unsure which window applies to your situation, that's exactly the kind of question we help answer. Our Medicare Eligibility & Enrollment Periods page covers this in more detail.

Not Sure Whether Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement Is Right for You?

This is one of the most common questions we hear — and there's no single right answer. The better choice depends on your health, how often you travel, which doctors you want to keep, and your financial priorities.

Medicare Advantage typically offers lower monthly premiums and added benefits. Medicare Supplement plans offer broader provider access and more predictable out-of-pocket costs. We walk through both options together so you can see the real difference for your situation — not a generic comparison chart.

We've put together a dedicated comparison to help: Medicare Advantage vs. Medicare Supplement breaks down how the two approaches work side by side.
